Sports & the Community


Just goes to show that pro league franchises need to re-define their relationship with the community. An organization like the Chicago Bulls has much to offer it’s surrounding neighborhoods – jobs,  commerce, capital for investment, role models, etc. –  but it requires planning. When sports reaches the point where it ought to be, where the team (organization-wide) is a focal point of the local community, teams will have much greater success in even the smaller markets. The problem is that the teams don’t take the time to create a comprehensive plan for local integration, instead opting for a bevy of separate community efforts that never gel.
